Jan Perkins passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, in Lehi, Utah, with family by her side.
Jan was born on May 20, 1946, to Arthur and Matie White Reser in Haver, Montana. She grew up in Cut Bank, Montana with her beloved brother, Roger, and cherished their close bond throughout her life. From a young age, Jan demonstrated a natural athleticism and competitive spirit. In high school, she proudly represented her school as the only girl on the golf team, earning a spot at the state competition during her senior year.
After graduating high school, Jan attended Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. Her passion for sports and education led her to transfer to Brigham Young University, where she competed in golf, field hockey, and barrel racing. An avid golfer, Jan loved the game and found joy and camaraderie both on and off the course throughout her life.
During her time at BYU, Jan embraced her faith, becoming a baptized member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 16, 1967. This decision led her to serve a mission in Australia, where she shared her faith and love with others in the West Australia mission. Jan served in many church callings and was a beloved Relief Society and Gospel Doctrine teacher in the Springville 1st Ward.
Upon returning from her mission, Jan completed her degree in girls' health at BYU and began teaching at Springville Junior High School. It was there she met the love of her life, Ned Perkins.
The couple was married for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple on August 18, 1972. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and service, raising four children: Reed, Jenny, Ryan, and Brant.
After their marriage, Jan worked in a hospital on the labor and delivery unit, before returning to her true calling as a physical education teacher, dedicating many years to inspiring and mentoring students at Spanish Fork Middle School. Her enthusiasm for health and fitness, combined with her genuine care for her students, left a lasting impact on everyone she taught.
Jan’s legacy is carried on by her husband, Ned, her children Reed (Heather) Perkins, Ryan (Natalie) Perkins, and Brant Perkins, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Riley and Olivia (Tremaine) Lomax. She is reunited in peace with her parents, brother Roger, and her daughter, Jenny, who preceded her in death.
