Jerry Steinmetz

September 30, 1941 — October 23, 2024

Jerry Ray Steinmetz, age 83, of Mapleton, Utah, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday October 23, 2024 from complications related to congestive heart failure. Jerry was born September 30, 1941, in Twin Falls, Idaho to the late Reuben Steinmetz and Inez Freestone. He graduated from Valley High School and never missed a day. After graduating, he served a 2 1/2 year mission in Germany for The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Upon returning from his mission, he married Caron Joyce Hansen, June 4, 1964. They moved to Provo, Utah, where he attended Brigham Young University. He worked for Kennecott Copper Mine in Bingham Canyon to put himself through school. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Research Chemistry and took a job with Monsanto, first in Ohio and then St. Louis, Missouri as a research chemist. He was instrumental in the development of Round-up. He worked for Monsanto until he retired.

Jerry was an active church member. He was endowed October 14, 1960. He was ordained as a Seventy March 21, 1971, and as a High Priest on September 9, 1984. He was sealed to his parents June 30, 2009. He was an accomplished Scoutmaster and enjoyed working with the youth of the church. He also served in the Church History Center.

Jerry raised six children with his wife Caron, in St. Louis. He was a devoted husband and father who spent time with his family. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing, visiting with family members, movies with friends, reading, and bowling. He loved his family and his church. He had a wicked sense of humor and always kept us laughing.

Survivors include his wife Caron and his six children, Heidi Morgan (Lee), Camille Brimhall (Anthony), Angela Steinmetz (Charles Pietraszewski), Melanie Alicea (Jason), Kristie Carle (Adam), Dan Steinmetz (Ritchell). Grandchildren: Kyle Morgan (Tessa), Chad Morgan (Brad Davis), Alecia Honey (Chris), Justin Brimhall (Malynn), Kayla Niitsuma (Brady), Andrew Brimhall (Chance Pace), Sarah Warren (Josh), Aubrianna Brimhall, Dylan Alicea (Brenna), Blake Alicea, Gavin Alicea, Jaydon Alicea, Angeleah Carle, Kylie Carle, Kaylee Carle, AnaBelle Steinmetz, Vanessa Steinmetz, Jordan Steinmetz, Elena Steinmetz, Grant Steinmetz and his great grandchildren, Wren Morgan, Addelyn Morgan, Lucas Honey, Oliver Milligan’Honey, Sophie Brimhall, Dakota Niitsuma, Milo Niitsuma, Charlie Niitsuma, Joy Alicea, and Faith Alicea. Siblings: Michael Reuben Steinmetz and Larry Kent Steinmetz (Nola). He was preceded in death by siblings, Connie Jean Benett and Robert Patrick Steinmetz.

Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1068 S. 1600 W.,
Mapleton, Utah on Wednesday October 30th.

Funeral: 11:00 am
