Joseph "Jody" Mccalib

August 12, 1952 — December 19, 2024

Joseph Edward McCalib Jr. (Jody) was born on August 12, 1952, in Bellingham, Washington, to Joseph and Beverly McCalib. Jody passed away peacefully at his home on December 19, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Bev. Jody was the eldest of three sons. His brothers are Jeff (Kate) and Tim (Molly) who both reside in Washington.

Jody’s favorite thing in the entire world was baseball. Baseball was life. He played on numerous little league teams and went on to play for his high school and community college baseball teams. He was the star of his high school baseball team, he was a great first baseman. He was also on the basketball team. He excelled in sports and lettered in both. In high school, Jody was a friend to everyone.

He loved spending his childhood summers in Anacortes, Washington, swimming and hanging out at the beach.

After high school Jody served an LDS mission to Houston, Texas, and then attended Brigham Young University (Provo) where he met his first wife, Debbie. He then attended Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, and received a degree in Communications. Jody and Debbie had two children. Erin Ruth Brinton (Taylor) and Nathanial Burton McCalib (Nicole). They later divorced.

He loved coaching and teaching his children the game of baseball and softball. Coaching their teams was pure joy to him. He loved to umpire baseball games and did so for 20 years, well into his 60’s.

Jody later married Debra Rainey and they has one child, Luke, together. They later divorced.

He had various sales jobs through the years, he loved talking to people and was a people person. He lived most of his adult life in Utah, but he always loved going back up to the Northwest to visit family, go crabbing and eat a ton of crab.

He married his True North, MarJean, in 2011 and they were married for 13 wonderful years. He finally met his person. They did everything together and loved to laugh. Jody was MarJean’s caretaker for the last 6 months of his life and did everything for her. This was a selfless act and showed how kind he was; he did it all without complaining or asking for help. He will be sorely missed by many.

He is survived by his wife MarJean, his children Erin, Nate and Luke, his brothers Jeff and Tim, step-children Ben, Jeremy, Cami and Erin, sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
