Michael Christopher Jones, age 56, of Spanish Fork, Utah, passed away unexpectedly following a fall. He was born on January 30, 1969, in Rockledge, Florida, to Mary Ann Jones.
Michael brought joy, connection, and a spark of adventure to everyone who knew him. Known affectionately as a “social butterfly,” he made friends wherever he went—striking up conversations with neighbors, strangers, and fellow travelers alike. He loved food, travel, and especially visiting family—always looking forward to the next “fun trip.”
His favorite things were simple and heartfelt: cheering on the Seattle Seahawks, enjoying a cold Pepsi, indulging in M&M’s of every kind, and collecting stacks of $2 bills to hand out to children—just to make them smile.
He became a bit of a town celebrity—frequenting the local barber shop as its unofficial mascot and walking Main Street like he owned it, waving to familiar faces and spreading joy wherever he went. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
Though Michael lived with disabilities, he lived fully. His heart was pure and open, reflecting the love described in 1 Corinthians 13: patient, kind, not proud or self-seeking, always hopeful, always enduring. He lived those words daily—without fanfare, but with great impact.
Michael also quietly embodied the verse: "He became as a child—submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father."
His theme song could have been “A Million Dreams”—fitting for a soul who saw the world through wide, joyful eyes and believed in its beauty, no matter the circumstances.
He is survived by his sister and favorite person, Denice Honstein, and her husband Robert—his lifelong adventure buddy. He was a proud uncle to Brianna, Noah (and his wife Hannah), Sarah, Amanda, and Hannah. He is also survived by his extended family, including Uncle Loys & Aunt Debbie Hamilton, Aunt Christy & Uncle Charles Hill, and Aunt Laurie Hamilton.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on May 31st — details to follow.
To all in the community who loved, cherished, and relished in joy with him—we hope he blessed you as much as you blessed him.
