Roy Rodgers Dickens started his earth life on June 12, 1939, in Hampton, Virginia, and departed on September 2, 2021, at his home in Payson, Utah. He was born to John William and Ella Mae Wilder Dickens.

Upon completion of high school in Virginia, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he served for four years. This was followed by serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission. Shortly after completing his mission he drove to Utah where he enrolled at BYU and met his beautiful wife, Naomi Cunningham. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 9, 1968. Utah has been their permanent home. He worked for 18 years at Brigham Young University in the Receiving and Stores department where he excelled in managing a highly efficient warehouse.

Roy loved to create! He created a plan to simplify home food storage and self-reliance, wrote a book about it and taught many classes over many years to help others prepare for the future. He created unique word puzzles with the hopes of publishing a puzzle book. He created crafts and guns from wood and created a small business selling his wares. He created an incredible landscape in his yard. He loved to hear his children sing together, so he created opportunities for them to learn to harmonize and then perform at various family and church events as well as all across the U.S. when traveling. He created laughter with his wit and sense of humor. He created a lovely family of 8 children with Naomi. Roy is a creator!

There were many loves in Roy’s life including the gospel of Jesus Christ, gaining knowledge, teaching, fishing, reading, photography, art, drawing, and plants, but his greatest love was his family. He and Naomi (Mama) successfully raised 7 daughters and 1 son. Teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to his children, studying the scriptures as a family, holding hands during family prayer, and learning were of great importance to him. He instilled these habits and values in his children. There is a phrase he and Mama exchanged with each other daily that was then adopted by each of his children. It was used at the end of every phone conversation and at every parting.... “Remember I love you.” Family was his top priority and his greatest accomplishment.

Roy is survived by:
-his devoted wife, Naomi;
-8 beautiful children: Michelle (Doug) Neel, Shauna (Doug) Powell, Cynthia (Brett) Campbell, Teresa (Jaime) Brimhall, Renee (Jeremy) Slater, Lisa (Kimball) Langton, Cathy (Matt) Nelson, and Robert (Denise) Dickens;
-41 amazing grandchildren, one arriving soon and 4 now married;
5 siblings: Loria Roth, Stanley Dickens, Gene Dickens, Mary Webb, and Mae (Gail) Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter and 5 siblings. He has many dear friends and family members who greeted him with open arms upon his passing, specifically his mother who died when he was only 16.

His family is grateful to have known him in this life and we love him with all of our hearts. We have peace knowing his earthly trials are complete and we look forward to being with him again. Roy/Daddy/Grandpa, remember we love you!
