Sheldon Wolf

June 24, 1952 — January 23, 2025

“I guess you are seeing my name in the obituary so it means I’m dead.”

On January 23rd , at the ripe age of 72, our beloved husband, father and brother, Sheldon Wolf, rode off into the sunset and faithfully completed his earthly journey, returning to his Father in Heaven with honor. He left this earth peacefully and in comfort while at home surrounded by his loving family.

Sheldon was born on June 24, 1952 in Tiffin, Ohio to Inez May Chambers and Warren Gail Wolf. Throughout his life, he carried a profound love and appreciation for his Ohio heritage. He often reminisced about the fond memories of the many adventures and special moments that he enjoyed with his sister, Sheila, while living in the Buckeye State. After his mother and father divorced, his mother felt a strong calling to move the family to Utah to join "the Saints" in Salt Lake City, where they put down strong roots and began a new chapter of their lives.

His mother married Max Hoggard, and the family settled on Max’s farm in American Fork where Sheldon graduated from American Fork High School. Sheldon loved Max as a Dad and was happy to be sealed to him and his mom in 1976 in the Salt Lake Temple. Sheldon cherished the time spent on the farm chopping wood, helping care for the horses and dogs and tending to the fields alongside Max. Max played a key role in introducing Sheldon to the Postal Service, helping him secure a job that would become his lifelong career. For 35 years, Sheldon devoted himself to sorting and delivering mail to the residents of Springville City.

Sheldon was truly blessed to find his soulmate in Lou Ann Ipson. On December 2, 1976, they were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Provo Temple. Over the next 48 years, they built a life rooted in love, respect, joy and unwavering devotion to each other and to their family. Sheldon often said that the best decision he ever made was marrying Lou Ann. Together, they had 6 children, of whom five they were able to raise.

Sheldon faithfully served an honorable mission in the North California Mission, where he had the privilege of serving as a Branch President on a Native American Reservation. His love for his Savior and his testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ were at the center of his life. He was actively involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding numerous callings throughout his life. These included serving in the temple baptistery, as a Cub Scout Den Leader, Ward Clerk, Primary Teacher, Assistant Ward Executive Secretary and Stake Baptismal Font Filler, among many others. He dutifully and faithfully fulfilled these callings, each one important to him. His most significant calling, however, was researching his genealogy and performing temple work for his ancestors. He poured his heart into this sacred responsibility, dedicating countless hours in the temple to perform these holy ordinances.

Sheldon had the purest soul and the kindest heart, he was always thoughtful and intentional in his relationships. He was a friend to everyone—neighbors, strangers, and loved ones alike—offering smiles, compliments, remembering names, birthdays, special events and made it a point to make people feel seen and remembered.

Sheldon truly lived life to the fullest, finding joy in a wide range of activities. He held a deep passion for researching American History, especially the American West, Native American culture, and the tales of explorers, pioneers, cowboys, and mountain men. He was renowned for his lightning quick brain, recalling facts and sharing stories about the things he had learned.

His love for the outdoors was evident as he engaged in many activities such as gardening, hiking, camping, snowshoeing and star gazing. Whether it was playing with dogs, horseback riding, tending to horses, canoeing, or simply going on drives, Sheldon embraced every opportunity to appreciate and experience the beautiful world around him. His home was filled with music, from Western tunes to the voices of the Tabernacle Choir.

He also treasured quiet moments of reading, napping, and indulging in good food—especially his beloved snacks. From redskin Spanish peanuts to popcorn and donuts, Sheldon was always ready to share a treat.

Above all, Sheldon was an incredible father and a true friend to each of his five children, and the most devoted and loving grandfather to his 15 grandchildren. He cultivated deep, meaningful connections with every one of his children, offering unwavering support and encouragement in all their pursuits. Whether he was playing on the floor with his children or later with his grandchildren, Sheldon’s joy was contagious as he spent hours creating lasting memories. He never passed up an opportunity to express his love to his children and his family, whether through kind words or the countless acts of service he quietly performed for them.

We take comfort and find great peace in knowing that Sheldon is riding high in heaven, his spirit soaring, and that his influence and infectious spirit will continue to uplift and shape the lives of all those he touched. His legacy of love, kindness, and service will forever remain with us, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Sheldon is preceded in death by his son, Steven Gail Wolf, his sister, Christina Lynn Wolf, and parents, Warren Gail Wolf, and Max & Inez Hoggard.
