Sheri Jean Thorn was born to Harold Halstenberg and Barbara Kay Halstenberg on June 9th, 1960 in Buena Park, CA. A happy, healthy baby with a contagious smile, Sheri was an immediate ray of light in this world upon her arrival.
Even at a young age, Sheri had a golden heart full of love and compassion. Always willing to give and care, she was happy to grow up and take care of the younger ones around her. In their family home with her siblings Scott, Pam, and Stacy, Sheri was always the shy and quiet one of the family. She was humble, and a silent protector of those she loved. Sheri had a big heart for little children. She was so careful, kind, and gentle with them.
This interest led her to earn a bachelor’s degree in general elementary education at Cal State University, Dominguez Hills. After finishing college, she began working at a department store called Robinson’s. She loved working there and would often tell her children stories about her time there. The next job she got was at Freight Systems doing freight management where she met her husband, Charlie Thorn. After that, they worked together doing freight and became a dream team.
On July 22nd, 1995, Sheri and Charlie married and committed to join their lives together. Soon after, on November 16th of that same year, Sheri had their firstborn child Trina, and showered her with so much love. On April 5th, 1997, she had her son, Jeremy, who filled her heart with even more joy. Then on October 21st, 1999, Sheri and Charlie completed their family with Erika. Sheri’s love for her children cannot be described in words—she was the most devoted, accepting, and loving mother imaginable. In having her family, her love and motherly nature truly blossomed; she had found her purpose. She dedicated her life and everything she did to her family. She brought her family in Utah and California together as often as she could by planning visits.
In 2002, Sheri and Charlie started their first business, Stellar Transportation, with Charlie's business partner Lamar Driggs. Sheri was an incredibly dedicated worker, and was committed to doing the best job possible. Though the company eventually closed its doors, they went on to start their next business, Celestial Freight Solutions in 2006 with long time friend Eric Morales. Sheri and Charlie worked here until their passing. They were able to create and run a very successful business with the help of their close associates.
Sheri was known as Aunt Sheri by many, while Charlie was always Uncle Charlie. They “adopted” many into their family and care. Over the years, several people received help and support from Charlie, and while his love was loud and out in the open, Sheri was always in the background with her love and encouragement holding everything together. She was an aunt or “mom” to many, such as Steve Lawrence, Bill Brown, Janise Gallegos, Kessler Forrest, Olivia Johanson, Jozef, Reesa and the Kammermans, and many more. The list of children she and Charlie took in is too many to name. She taught her children and all those around her what true and unconditional love is, through her actions and words. She gave all of herself to everyone she cared for and never expected anything in return. Sheri was the epitome of selfless love.
Sheri was also known for her unshakable faith in our Heavenly Father, and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After the tragic loss of her daughter and husband, she was so unbelievably happy to be able to be sealed to them for eternity. She felt so blessed to have the love and support of the wonderful ward she was a part of. In this loving community, she gained so many incredible friends who became family, and she loved them all dearly.
Sheri was a beacon of comfort, a lighthouse in life’s struggles. Her insurmountable strength and driving will to love drew others to her. With endless plants and decorations, she created a homey and loving atmosphere. In 2021, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and bravely faced this challenge before her passing. What a woman she was. Through heartache, loss, and even disease, her heart remained pure and her faith unhindered.
Sheri is survived by her daughter, Trina, and son, Jeremy, as well as her siblings Scott, Pam, Stacy and her father Harold, and step-mother Nancy. She will be met in Heaven by her husband Charlie, daughter Erika, mom Barbara, brother-in-law Curt, and many other family and friends. Our family is eternally grateful for the sincere and generous support they’ve received.
