Shirley Ruth Marshall, age 94, transitioned to be with the Lord on January 16, 2025, while residing in Spring Gardens, Mapleton, Utah.
She was born July 30, 1930, to Gerald and Margaret Houze in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. On March 28, 1952, she married Richard L. Marshall in the Crafton Christian Church, Crafton Pennsylvania. Shirley, a born-again Christian at age 10 on April 6, 1941, was a graduate of Slippery Rock College. She was an elementary school teacher who spent the last 24 years of her career teaching second grade at Mapleton Elementary in Mapleton, Utah.
A mother of six, she was a busy lady, yet enjoyed a multitude of activities including: singing in the church choir, piano, art, skiing, and golf. During her retirement years she especially enjoyed her golfing with her friends at Riverside Country Club.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her brother John Houze (Elaine) and her parents Gerald and Margaret Houze. Survivors include her children, Jim Marshall (Melba) of Hoover Al., Alan Marshall (Barb) of Mineral Va., Stephen Marshall (Terry) of Mapleton Ut, John Marshall (Lynn) of Mesquite Nv, Tina Hazel of Payson Ut, and Sherry Kelly (Marlin) of Springville Ut, 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. One sibling, Jerry Houze (Sue) of Lake Suzy Fla.
Memorial celebration of life will be held at Spring Gardens, 1483 West 800 South, Mapleton, Utah on Jan 21, 2025 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Mapleton Elementary School in her memory.
